About Abergavenny Fine Foods
Abergavenny Fine Foods, based in South Wales, is the UK’s largest manufacturer of goat’s cheese and a leading producer of premium free-from, plant-based, and vegan food products. To efficiently manage their growing team and production demands, they have implemented a robust workforce management system.
Founded in the 1980s with just a handful of goats, the business has grown to supply retail, wholesale, quick-service restaurant (QSR), and B2B customers. Today, 20% of turnover comes from export markets, and the company is recognised for its innovation, quality, and compliance excellence.

The Challenge
By 2022, Abergavenny’s legacy Kronos Time & Attendance system had become outdated and no longer met operational needs. The team required a modern, cloud-based solution to support:
- 300 employees and 20 managers
- Both agency and permanent staff
- Complex shifts, rounding rules, and grace periods
- Prevention of “buddy clocking”
- Simplified holiday and absence management
Our Solution: Chronicle Online
Abergavenny selected Chronicle Online, our cloud-based workforce management platform, to replace their legacy system.
To enhance accuracy and security, we recommended Maximus Biometric Terminals using fingerprint identification — ensuring individual, reliable clock-ins. The plug-and-play terminals were easily installed by Abergavenny’s in-house team.

Chronicle’s project team configured the platform to match the company’s shift patterns and attendance rules, collaborating closely with on-site managers to streamline rosters and automate overtime calculations.
Employees can now:
- Managers use the Manager’s App for real-time attendance tracking, fire reporting, and on-the-go approvals.
- Request holidays via Self-Service on desktop or the Chronicle mobile app.
To further reduce HR administration, Chronicle developed a bespoke payroll reporting tool, consolidating all employee data into a single export. Our UK-based support team continues to provide fast, responsive assistance — a key driver of customer satisfaction.

“We delivered Abergavenny’s transition from legacy systems to Chronicle Online within months, achieving a stable, scalable workforce management solution for 300 employees and Biometric Terminals now used across two manufacturing sites.”
— Zac Ballard, Project Manager, Chronicle Computing
Outcome
The project began in late 2022 and was fully operational by April 2023. Staff were clocking in daily, and payroll reports ran smoothly.
Following this success, Abergavenny extended Chronicle to its second site, Innovate Foods, in 2025. This site, with 115 employees, adopted GT8 facial-recognition terminals, enabling both sites to be managed centrally by one HR team under a unified system.

“We’ve been very happy with the support from Chronicle. They’re always helpful, quick to respond, and continue to improve the product — the new Exceptions Management screen recently introduced has help reduce admin time significantly.”
— Will Naish, HR Advisor, Abergavenny Fine Foods
