Overview
Chronicle is developing a brand-new dedicated Tablet Clocking App, giving customers another flexible and cost-effective way for employees to clock in and out using Chronicle Online.
Designed specifically for shared workplace devices, the new application will run on Android tablets and Apple iPads and will provide a modern alternative to traditional dedicated Time & Attendance terminals.
The app will use Luxand facial recognition technology, allowing employees to be identified quickly before accessing their clocking options.
Facial Recognition Without a Dedicated Terminal
Dedicated facial recognition terminals remain an excellent solution for larger or busier locations, but they are not always necessary for smaller sites with relatively low employee numbers.
Chronicle’s new Tablet Clocking App is being designed to fill that gap.
Rather than purchasing specialist clocking hardware, customers will be able to install the Chronicle application on a compatible Android tablet or iPad and create a dedicated workplace clocking station.
This makes it particularly attractive for:
- Smaller offices and operational sites
- Satellite locations
- Reception areas
- Warehouses and workshops
- Temporary locations
- Sites with relatively low employee numbers
- Customers wanting to introduce facial recognition without investing in dedicated terminals
The result is a simple proposition: facial recognition clocking without the cost of a dedicated facial recognition terminal.
Built Specifically for Tablet Clocking
The new application is not simply a resized version of the existing Chronicle Manager App.
It is being developed as a purpose-built shared-device clocking application, with a clean interface designed to make everyday employee transactions extremely quick.
Employees will be able to see their current status and access the actions relevant to them, including:
- Start and end shifts
- Start and end breaks
- Change activities
- View hours worked during the day
- See scheduled breaks
- See whether breaks have been taken, missed or are currently in progress
- View relevant shift and activity information
The interface helps supervisors in busy operational environments move quickly between employees and easily see their current working status.
Fast Luxand Facial Recognition
A key part of the new application will be its integration with Luxand facial recognition technology.
Our objective is to make identification extremely fast, allowing an employee to approach the tablet, be recognised and complete their transaction with minimal interaction.
This removes the need for employees to remember PIN numbers or carry cards while also providing another modern clocking option alongside Chronicle’s existing hardware, mobile and browser-based solutions.
Turn an Android Tablet or iPad Into a Chronicle Clocking Station
The application will support both Android and iOS, giving customers much greater freedom over the hardware they choose to deploy.
Customers can wall-mount tablets or position them at a suitable workplace entrance and use them as dedicated Chronicle clocking devices.
Tablets can also be lock the device into a kiosk-style configuration, which keeps employees within the Chronicle application and prevents them from using the tablet for unrelated purposes. They can also configure the tablet to stay active and ready for employees throughout the working day.
This means readily available consumer tablet hardware can effectively become a dedicated Chronicle Time & Attendance station.
More Choice for Chronicle Customers
We don’t believe there should be a single way for every organisation to capture employee attendance.
A manufacturing facility with hundreds of employees clocking within a short shift-change window may need dedicated industrial hardware.
A smaller office with 15 or 20 employees may not.
Chronicle already supports a wide range of employee clocking methods, and the new Tablet Clocking App will give customers another option depending on their environment, workforce and budget.
For smaller sites in particular, we believe the combination of readily available tablet hardware, fast facial recognition and direct integration with Chronicle Online could provide a very compelling solution.
