Chronicle Update: Define Restricted Clock-In Areas
We’re excited to announce a new enhancement in Chronicle that gives organisations even greater control over where employees can clock in. With this update, administrators can now define restricted clock-in areas, ensuring employees record attendance only from approved work locations.
This feature strengthens Chronicle’s position as one of the most efficient cloud-based time and attendance systems. It helps businesses improve accuracy, enhance security, and maintain full visibility over employee activity.

How It Works
You can now configure each Cost Centre with precise latitude and longitude coordinates. When employees attempt to clock in using the Chronicle Employee Mobile App, the system automatically checks their GPS location. If they try to clock in from a restricted zone, the app blocks the attempt immediately.
As a result, only employees who are physically present at authorised work sites can complete their clock-in successfully. This approach ensures greater accuracy in attendance records and reduces the possibility of time fraud.
Key Benefits
Furthermore, this enhancement delivers several practical advantages:
- Improved accuracy of attendance and payroll data
- Reduced time fraud, thanks to precise location verification
- Enhanced security, ensuring compliance with company policies
- Simplified management of remote or field-based teams
- Seamless integration with existing Cost Centre configurations
In addition, managers can monitor compliance across multiple locations more easily. They gain real-time insight into where employees clock in, helping them make faster and more informed decisions.

The Restricted Clock-In Area feature is now available to all Chronicle Employee Mobile App users.
